Kaya's Big Day #5

Kaya turned 5 years old on Thursday, September 29th. What an awesome 5 years. Becoming a Dad is the coolest thing that's ever happened to me - and being Kaya's dad is exceptionally awesome. Kaya now measures in at 46.5" tall, wears at least a 6t and size 11 shoes, and has switched her favorite color from pink to turquoise blue, which she pronounces 'Churquoise'.

She was very excited for her 5th birthday, but was surprised to wake up and 'still felt like she was 4.' Having 2 homes isn't always easy, but it has its perks. After a raucous party with Mom's side of the family at Jungle Jim's on Thursday, Kaya knew she still had Dad's party on Saturday at Taufer Park - resulting in a weekend of good times. She did not suffer in the gifts department. Dad got her a razor scooter, Rachie got her a Playmobil Dollhouse, and Mom got her a big girl bike, along with all sorts of cool stuff from friends and family. Kaya has already taken time to play with almost everything - she has loved all the new toys & games.

But probably more fun was had at her Taufer Park birthday than any of that the gifts could provide. There was a homemade piñata, rainbow sprinkle cupcakes, a pan of Kaya's favorite mac n' cheese, local-made Mexican lime ice cream, and best of all - relatives and friends of all sorts to play with. The kids seemed to have a blast. Later that night a few friends stuck around / showed up later at our house, and Kaya took a group of her friends on a flashlight-lit treasure hunt around our neighborhood to find Mr. Mister, our cat. Reminiscent of my best memories of being a kid. It was cute to see them all so engulfed in their world of pretend and mystery. Thanks to everyone who could make it - and for those of you that couldn't - you were missed - here are some photos so you're not left out :)

Anyway - here's to a great 5th year for my little one - now an official 'big girl.' To put it in her words - yesterday I told her she was just growing like a little beanstalk, to which she replied - 'I'm not little anymore, but I'm still growing like a beanstalk!' After I laughed, she ran around the house in circles repeating it until I was in stitches. Funny   little  bug. All my love.

6) Uncle Nick was able to come over for a bit - and had Kaya swinging high!

13-14) After the piñata busting - the girls took the whistles they found inside to make shrill high noises on the playground. Sweet music. Rej & Heather took home 3 pieces of the quartet. Luckies.
